Prep football coach
WEST MONROE – A memorial service will be Friday at the football field for long-time West Monroe High coach Don Shows. He died March 3 at age 75.
He became the school’s head coach in 1989 and took the team to the state championships eight times. West Monroe won its first state title in 1993 and the won in 1996 1997 and 1998. The Rebels last state championship was in 2011.
Shows, a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, coached 49 years, his last being 2012.

NEW ORLEANS – Services for long-time Southern N.O. professor Dr. Felix James were March 1. He died Feb. 23,
He joined SUNO in 1974. He also was on the faculties at Southern Illinois and Tuskegee University and taught at Dillard, UNO and Northern Iowa. He was pastor of Salvation Baptist Church, Pearl River.
Survivors include a daughter.
