CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, at 1 p.m. at Maxie Gospel Tabernacle in Maxie for Rev. Roy John Kibodeaux Sr., 80, who died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
Visitation will be held at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, with a special worship service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at Maxie Gospel Tabernacle on Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. until the start of services. Interment will be in Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.
Rev. Kibodeaux was a good and generous man who devoted his life to serving the Lord and those around him. He founded The Welcome House shelter, which provides Christian-based services to homeless men, women and families. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Kiwanis International for many years. In 1988, he was named the Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Crowley Chamber of Commerce, and throughout his life he received numerous awards for his humanitarian service to the citizens of Crowley and Acadia Parish.
He is survived by his wife, Ienaise Myers Kibodeaux of Crowley; two daughters, Kathy Duncan and husband Shea of Crowley and Debbie Comeaux of North Carolina; three sons, Roy John Kibodeaux Jr. and Troy Kibodeaux, both of Crowley, and Chet Kibodeaux and wife Liz of Houston, Texas; one step-son, Val Smith and wife Sharon of Crowley; two sisters, Edna Gautreaux and Margery Hawkins, both of Crowley; one brother, Andrus Kibodeaux of Carencro; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Rev. Kibodeaux was preceded in death by his parents, John and Andrea Cormier Kibodeaux; one son, Sammy Kibodeaux; one sister, Alice Kibodeaux; one brother, Louis Kibodeaux; three step-sons, Kevin Smith, Wesley Ardoin and Willard John Suire; and one son-in-law, Dennis Comeaux.
Services will be led by Rev. Sigmund Richard and Rev. Stacey Miller.
Pallbearers will be Troy Kibodeaux, R.J. Kibodeaux, Sigmund Richard, Chet Kibodeaux, Kendell Kibodeaux, Wayne Welsh, Gil Padgett and Charles McDowell. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Francis, Joe Freeland and Larry Regan.
