EUNICE ~ Myrtle Lee Fisher Guillory, age 84, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Acadia St. Landry Hospital in Church Point, LA, surrounded by her two lovely daughters. She was born on January 3, 1931, to John and Martha Fisher. Myrtle attended Happy Hill Colored School in Eunice, LA, where she graduated high school. Myrtle continued her educational journey and graduated from Leland College in Baker, LA, with a B.S. in Education and then pursued her educational career by obtaining a Masters of Education from Texas Southern as well as 30+ hours from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Myrtle began her career in teaching at Charles Drew Elementary, Happy Hill Elementary, and East Elementary (4th grade) and after 43 years of dedicated, devoted and outstanding teaching, she retired as an education from the St. Landry Parish School System.
Of the many that knew Myrtle, knew that she was an outstanding teacher who mentored her students, she was non-judgemental, but held each student accountable for engaging in the learning process through high expectations and creative teaching. Myrtle gave education a new look as an “instinctive’’ teacher, but most importantly as a model for new instructors coming into the profession. Overtime, she set a new standard of teacher effectiveness for those who followed in her footsteps.
Myrtle will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Shelia E. Guillory and Michelle I. Guillory, both of Eunice, LA. She left behind one sister, Betty Anderson, of Eunice, LA. Three brothers, Harry Fisher and Scottie Fisher, both of Eunice, LA, and Dr. Perry Fisher of Pretoria, South Africa, 9 grandkids, a host of great grandkids, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Ernest L. Guillory, two sons, Todd J. Guillory and Gerald J. Guillory; one sister, Roma Fisher; two brothers, Otis Fisher and Murphy Fisher and two nephews, George Fisher and Rev. Wilbert Fisher.
Missing her greatly will be her nephews and a host of family and friends. The Guillory/Fisher family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the outpouring of love, prayers, concern and kindness shown during their time of bereavement. May God bless you.
At the request of the family, wake and funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Viewing will be held in the Bishop Ceaser Center from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Rosary to being at 9:30 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, LA. Followed by the repast.
