A funeral service for Medeuse Reed, 86, will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015, at 10 AM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home
with burial at Reed Cemetery in Lanse Meg. Deacon David Guillory will officiate.
A rosary will be prayed Sunday at 6:00 PM by Deacon Guillory. Medeuse died on Saturday, November 28.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Deshotel Reed of Eunice; a daughter, Tina R. Veillon and her husband Kenneth of Eunice; a son Farrell Reed of Eunice; two grandson, Kenneth Shane Veillon & Bernadette of Eunice and Daniel Asher Veillon of Eunice; sister-in-law Irene Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Edia McCauley Reed; brother Elward Reed; sister, Clarina Veillon.
Medeuse was a retired custodian at Eunice Elementary.

EUNICE~Our hearts are saddened by the sudden death of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Lee Allen Bertrand at the age of 63. Graveside services were held Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Ashford Cemetery with Pastor Caleb Semien officiating.
He will be missed by many especially his wife, Michelle H. Bertrand of Ville Platte; his four children, Chanda Bertrand of Ville Platte, Derek and Darrin Bertrand both of Ville Platte and Shannon B. Mocanu of Baton Rouge; a brother, Raymond Bertrand of Dallas, TX and the joys of his life his eleven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sanders and Oline Clavier Bertrand; two brothers, Linus and Rodney Bertrand and a sister, Agnes Bertrand.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Kenneth Carrier of Eunice; one daughter, Crystal Broussard and
husband Garrett of Crowley; one son, Kenneth Carrier, Jr. of Eunice; one brother, Carl Fontenot and wife
Shawana of Eunice; and four grandchildren.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Fontenot and Ruth Lintzen Fontenot; one grandson,
Brylen Savoy; and one sister, Cheryl Richard.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
at Quirk & Son Funeral Home in Eunice. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon David Guillory. The
funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday for visitation until the time of service.

BASILE~Our hearts are heavy as we lost a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Geraldine G. Matte on Friday, November 27, 2015 in Pasadena, TX at the age of 75. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 05, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery with Father David Hebert Celebrant.
Geraldine a native of Lyons Point and a resident of Pasadena, TX. She loved quilting but most of all she loved her family and grandkids. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her especially her two sons, Jeffery Matte and wife, Nicole and Mark Matte all of Pasadena, TX; four daughters, Therese Seilhan and husband, Kevin of Basile, Annette Tadlock and husband, Paul of Pasadena, TX, Sarah Hatcher and husband, Terry of Norton, Ohio and Alice Christine Matte of Pasadena, TX; one brother, Olden Guillot of Morse; two sisters, Bernice Young of Basile and Etheline Abshire of Crowley; and the fourteen joys of her life her grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Matte; her parents, Louis and Alice Guillot; a brother, Nolan Guillot and a sister Dorothy Simon.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Basile on Friday, December 4th from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Saturday, December 5th from 8:00 am until time of services. Father David Hebert will recite a Rosary at 6:00 pm Friday evening.

On Wednesday, November 25, 2015, the Angels of the Lord descended on Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, LA and escorted Robert, 84, from his earthly adobe to his heavenly home.

Lake Arthur; four sons, Barry Prather and wife Christine of Richard; Gregory Prather of Richard; Bradford
Prather of Richard; and Christopher Prather and wife Denise of Eunice; one sister, Margaret Ardoin of Richard;
fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew J. Prather and Ruby Steen Prather; one grandson, Timothy
D. Poole; and one brother, Lee Prather.

EUNICE~Our hearts are heavy as we have lost a very special daughter, sister, aunt, big nan and friend, Suzanne Fontenot at the age of 49. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Randall Moreau Celebrant.
Suzanne was a teacher at Abbeville High School where she was the head of the Special Ed Department, was a chairperson of the SBLC committee, she ran Station 2 at the Area Special Olympics track meet for over 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville where she served as a Eucharist Minister and a Lector. She enjoyed life and her happiest times were spent creating memories with family and friends especially with her mother, Sandra R. Fontenot of Eunice; her two sisters, Dana Hollier and husband, Lloyd of Eunice and Arlene Guidry and husband, Terry of Carencro; her nieces and nephews, Steven Hollier and wife, Haley, Shelly Hollier, godchild, Keri Hollier, godchildren, Terie Nichole Patin and husband, Korrey, Geoffrey Guidry and wife, Annie, Kalyn Benoit and husband, Daniel, Zachary Guidry and wife, Krystal and McKenzie Guidry; and was a big nan to nine great nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and friends. She lives on in all her family, friends, and anyone who had the grace to be touched by her. ''The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained.''
She is preceded in death by her father, Houston Fontenot and brother, Darby Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Wednesday, December 9th from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Thursday, December 10th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Gary Gaudin will recite a Rosary at 6:30 pm Wednesday evening.

Myrtle Lee Fisher Guillory

EUNICE ~ Myrtle Lee Fisher Guillory, age 84, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Acadia St. Landry Hospital in Church Point, LA, surrounded by her two lovely daughters. She was born on January 3, 1931, to John and Martha Fisher. Myrtle attended Happy Hill Colored School in Eunice, LA, where she graduated high school. Myrtle continued her educational journey and graduated from Leland College in Baker, LA, with a B.S. in Education and then pursued her educational career by obtaining a Masters of Education from Texas Southern as well as 30+ hours from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Myrtle began her career in teaching at Charles Drew Elementary, Happy Hill Elementary, and East Elementary (4th grade) and after 43 years of dedicated, devoted and outstanding teaching, she retired as an education from the St. Landry Parish School System.
Of the many that knew Myrtle, knew that she was an outstanding teacher who mentored her students, she was non-judgemental, but held each student accountable for engaging in the learning process through high expectations and creative teaching. Myrtle gave education a new look as an “instinctive’’ teacher, but most importantly as a model for new instructors coming into the profession. Overtime, she set a new standard of teacher effectiveness for those who followed in her footsteps.
Myrtle will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Shelia E. Guillory and Michelle I. Guillory, both of Eunice, LA. She left behind one sister, Betty Anderson, of Eunice, LA. Three brothers, Harry Fisher and Scottie Fisher, both of Eunice, LA, and Dr. Perry Fisher of Pretoria, South Africa, 9 grandkids, a host of great grandkids, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Ernest L. Guillory, two sons, Todd J. Guillory and Gerald J. Guillory; one sister, Roma Fisher; two brothers, Otis Fisher and Murphy Fisher and two nephews, George Fisher and Rev. Wilbert Fisher.
Missing her greatly will be her nephews and a host of family and friends. The Guillory/Fisher family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the outpouring of love, prayers, concern and kindness shown during their time of bereavement. May God bless you.
At the request of the family, wake and funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Viewing will be held in the Bishop Ceaser Center from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Rosary to being at 9:30 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, LA. EUNICE~ Phillip N. LeJeune, 52, died peacefully at home following a long illness. Mr. LeJeune was a lifelong resident of Eunice and proud of his Cajun Heritage. He had a zest for life and a deep compassion for all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:30 pm on Friday, December 11, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Armand, Amber, Andre and Jude LeJeune, life partner, Donna Martin, his brothers and sisters Stephen K. Ardoin, Sherri Ardoin Perron and David Ardoin (Lisa) all of Eunice, Vicki Lavergne and Connie Ardoin (George) all of Mamou and Pam Deville (Al) of Broussard, Chris Ardoin (Carmen) and Lindsey Aucoin (Marcy Kanenson) all of Baltimore, MD; as well as nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Trent.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Aucoin Bellard, a sister, Marie Denise (Ardoin) Gaspard and his father Gilton LeJeune.

Zenon Pat Fontenot passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the age of 76.

Pat is survived by his wife Gwen Chaumont Fontenot of Eunice; two daughters, Dr. Angelique F. Wadlington of Lafayette and Carlissa F. Dilick of Hot Springs, AR; two sons, Brent Fontenot and wife Sandra of Pineville
and Daniel Fontenot and wife Julie of Austin, TX; one brother John Fontenot and wife Linda of Eunice; ten grandchildren; Grant Wadlington, Trent Wadlington, Anne-Marie Pierret, Adrienne Fontenot, Allison Chamberlain,
Alysssa Fontenot, Abby Dilick, Ian Dilick, Stuart Fontenot, and Breanne Fontenot; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Jacques.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Zenon Fontenot and Thelma Pierotti Fontenot.
Pallbears will be Grant Wadlington, Trent Wadlington, Stuart Fontenot, Jacob Fontenot, Dr. Justin Fontenot, and Jeremy Fontenot.
Pat was an avid hunter who enjoyed many outdoor activities and a life-long member of the Eunice Gun Club. Above
all, he loved his wife Gwen and cherished all time spent with his family.

Grace Pierotti Knighten

Grace died peacefully in her sleep at age 99 years in San Diego, CA. She is survived by daughter Kaye Knighten Gwyn of Corpus Christi, TX; son and daughter-in-law James L. Knighten and Glynda Knighten of Poway, CA; grandsons James Gwyn of Austin TX and Adam Gwyn of Corpus Christi, TX; granddaughter Laura Knighten and her husband John Murphy of Sierra Madre, CA; granddaughter Katherine Miller and her husband Gerald Miller of Sierra Madre, CA; and great granddaughter Alice Grace Miller of Sierra Madre, CA.
Grace was born in Mamou, LA and graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) in Lafayette, LA with a degree in Education. She survived two husbands. In 1938, she married Clements Elliott of Pine Prairie, LA, who passed away suddenly in 1943. She then met and married returning WWII U.S. Navy sailor Harry G. Knighten of Lafayette, LA, who died in 1979.
Grace worked in the public library in Lafayette, LA in the late 1940’s. The family moved to Baton Rouge, LA to follow Harry’s job at the Baton Rouge Trade School. Later, when Harry moved to the Greensburg Trade School, the family moved to Amite, LA. Grace taught fifth grade for 30 years in public schools in Baton Rouge and Amite, LA, retiring from the public school system. After Harry’s death, she began teaching fifth grade at Oak Forest Academy in Amite. She then retired from Oak Forest and moved to Eunice, LA to be near her sisters.
Grace was a devoted Christian. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, Southside Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, First Baptist Church of Amite, and lastly First Baptist Church of Eunice. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a good sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading novels, and playing dominos.
In 2007 she moved to San Diego, CA to be close to her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. She lived in an assisted living facility and enjoyed social activities and family gatherings. While she was able, she attended Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego.
There is a viewing at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary, Poway, CA on Monday, December 14, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 followed by a Committal Service at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA at 1:30 p.m.

brother, Leon Smith of Lottie, LA; two nieces, Tammy Stelly of Leonville, LA and Angie Barrett of Houston, TX ; two grandchildren, Ashley Menard of Eunice, LA and Nicholas Miller of Eunice, LA;
two great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette D. Smith; parents, Sam and May Strawhorn Smith;
numerous brothers and sisters.

JENNINGS – Anthony was born in Jennings, LA on March 28, 1994 to Darren Spell and Sedonia Gatte Spell. He was called to his Heavenly Father on December 12, 2015. Anthony enjoyed spending his spare time working out. He also liked to go fishing and riding dirt bikes. Anthony was loved by many and will be tremendously missed by all.

Funeral services for Anthony Tracin Spell, 21 of Jennings, LA was held at First Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor James Townley officiating. Visitation was held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home on Monday, December 14th from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Visitation resumed at the First Pentecostal Church in Jennings, LA on Tuesday, December 15th at 8:00 am until the time of his service. Anthony was laid to rest in Gott’s Cove Cemetery.

John D. was a 1946 graduate of Iota High School. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force . He worked at the American Rice Mill in the Sales Department from1950 to 1960, Acadia Parish Clerk of Courts Office from 1960 to 1968 as the minute clerk, was a volunteer fireman for many years, owner and manager of Sittig Farm Supply from 1968 to 1986, N.O.B. Fertilizer Seed and Chemical from 1986 to 1995 as Seed Rice Sales. He was on the Louisiana State Welfare Board from 1963 to 1968. In 1958 until 1978 he was on the Iota Town Council. He was a Acadia Parish School Board member from 1968 to 1994 while serving 10 years as vice president and 10 years as president. Served on the Louisiana School Board Association. In 1994 he was elected the Mayor for the town of Iota until 2010. He was a parishioner of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as a lector as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He dedicated his life to serving God, his family and the community.
He is survived by his son, Jude Sittig and wife, Debbie of Iota; his four brothers, Lee Sittig of Crowley, Fred Sittig of Sulphur, Charles Sittig and wife, Pat and Dale Sittig and wife, Celine all of Eunice; his three sisters, Barbara Sittig of Lake Charles, Frances FaKouri of Baton Rouge and Kathryn Miller and husband, Dr. Ben of Eunice; his six grandchildren, Jamie Anderson, Kristian Boudreaux, Roxie Smith, Rachelle Domingue, Madison and Peyton Sittig; and his eleven great grandchildren, Morgan Teetzel, Michael, Connor and Cameron Anderson, Demi and Isabel Boudreaux, Liz, Olivia and Trevor Smith, Gracie Domingue, and Ava Garon. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Fontenot Sittig; his son, Kent Sittig; parents, Walter and Helen Matte Sittig; and a sister, Shirley Sittig Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Iota on Friday, December 18th from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, December 19th from 8:00 am until time of services. Prayer Group will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Friday evening.

IOTA-It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eldridge ''E. J.'' Lejeune announces his passing on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Acadia General Hospital in Crowley. A Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, December 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum with Father Jude Thierry, Celebrant and Father Mikel Polson, Concelebrant.
Eldridge, known as ''E. J.'' to all, enjoyed his grandchildren and supported all of their activities. He also loved Iota sports. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 60 years, Joyce Miller Lejeune of Iota; his son, Shannon Lejeune of Bayou Pigeon; his daughter, Renee Bushnell of Iota; brother, Gene Lejeune and wife, Revee of Kokomo, IN; sisters, Leona Blanchard and husband, Wallace of Egan, Thelma Istre of Egan, and Leora Amy of Maxie; seven grandchildren, Stacy Sharp and husband, Sam of Kinder, Kristi Rambin and husband, Colby, Casey Thibodeaux and husband, Kent, Terry Paul Bushnell, II, Tyler Joseph Bushnell, all of Iota, Abbey Lejeune of Beaumont, TX, and Dillon Lejeune of Gonzales; nine great grandchildren; as well as extended family and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge J. and Alex Myers Lejeune; son in-law, Terry Bushnell; brother, Harold Lejeune; and sister, Mary Clement.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Iota on Sunday, December 20th from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm, and again on Monday, December 21st from 8:00 am until services. Mrs. Judia Lacombe will recite a Rosary at 6:00 pm Sunday evening.

Burley Joseph Marcantel passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at the age of 81.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony
Catholic Church in Eunice. Fr. Travis Abadie will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Burley is survived by his wife, Wanda Fontenot Marcantel of Eunice; three daughters, Shelia M. Johnson and husband James of Kinder, Angie M. Courville and husband Patrick of Eunice, and Janet Marcantel of Eunice; three sons, David Blaine Marcantel and wife Debra of Lafayette, James "Jimmy" Marcantel and wife Janice of Lake Charles, and Ronald "Ronnie" Marcantel and Linda Gatte of Iota; twenty-three grandchildren; and forty-eight great-grandchildren.
Burley was preceded in death by his parents, Bodair Marcantel and Elia Fontenot Marcantel; two sisters, Theresa Sylvester and Wilma Dean Johnson; and two brothers, Edward and Charles Marcantel.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Gary Gaudin. The funeral home will open at 8:00 a.m.
Wednesday for visitation until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Codey Marcantel, Derrick Marcantel, Joshua Marcantel, Scott Marcantel, Dexter Guidry, and Jordy Guidry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Marcantel, Will Barnhill, Shannon Beau Young, and Regan Manuel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart of Hospice or St. Anthony Catholic Church for masses.
