
Albert Johnson, Jr.
Colonel, Lafayette supervisor
SCOTT – Services for retired colonel and city supervisor Albert Johnson, Jr. will be Thursday. He died Nov. 16 at age 90.
He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He held the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters and two Purple Hearts among many military decorations. He was operations and maintenance manager for the Lafayette Public Works Dept. for 14 years,.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, three children and three step-children.

Brig. General retired
LAFAYETTE – Services will be Friday in Fort Myers, Fla. for former fighter pilot and POW Brig. Gen. Chester Butcher, Retired. He died Nov. 15 at age 91.
He was a P-47 and P-51 fighter pilot, shot down over Europe in 1943. He spent a year and a half as a POW. He was a White House aide during the Truman and Eisenhower administrations, a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as deputy commander of the Fifth Allied Tactical Air Force, Europe. He held the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart and many other military decorations.
Survivors include his wife Harriett and a son.
Arrangements are by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
Mayor, legislator
BAKER – Services for former mayor and legislator Mike Cross will be Thursday. He died Nov. 18 at age 69.
He was the youngest city council member in the state when elected to the Baker council in 1972. He was elected mayor in 1976 and served in the Louisiana Senate from 1981 until 1996. He was a self-employed governmental relations consultant.
Survivors include his wife Kristie, four sons and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Baker.
Former football coach
MONROE – Services for retired football coach Walter Brister, Jr. will be Thursday. He died Nov. 18 at age 86.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. His coaching career included posts at Bunkie High, Pineville High, LaGrange High, West Monroe High and St. Frederick High.
Survivors include several children.
