Sharon 'Sally' Scott

Visitation for Sharon “Sally’’ Denise Scott, 52, will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 from 7:30 am to 10:45 am with funeral services following at 11:00 am, both at New Zion Baptist Church, 251 Nimitz Street, Eunice, LA. Officiating Pastor will be Allen W. Ben. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Chataignier, LA.
She died Monday, December 15, 2014 at 6:27 pm at her residence.
Sharon was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Sunshine Band and Sunday School member. Sharon was a 1982 graduate of Eunice High School, and attended Southern University.
Survivors include: her mother, Theresa Ann Doucet Scott of Eunice; a brother, Gary Scott (Angelic) of Beaumont, Texas; three sisters: Cathy Scott Price (Harry) and Charlotte Scott Alexander (Gerry), both of Richmond, Texas, and Michelle Scott of Eunice.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Scott, Jr. and her paternal maternal grandparents.
Pallbearers will be: Raymond Burney, Jr., Derrick Laster, Patrick Laster, Alex Scott, Donald Trosper, and Darren Wilson.
Frank Brothers is in charge of arrangements.

Mertie 'Lou' Melancon

Mertie "Lou" Simon Melancon died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at the age of 90.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Eunice. Monsignor Robert Romero will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum in Eunice.
She was a longstanding member of the Catholic Daughter Court 208; she was in the Omega Group. She was a volunteer and first president of the Eunice Manor volunteers. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilliary, as well as a member of the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society, having published two genealogy books.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Melancon and wife Sherry of Eunice and Al Melancon and wife Beverly of Duson; one daughter-in-law, Tressella Melancon of Eunice; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-granchildren.
Shee was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Simon and Agnes Leger Simon; one daughter, Bonnie M. Hebert; one son, Daniel Melancon; one brother, Johnny Ray Simon; and two sisters, Melford Dugas and Beverly Simon.
Visitation at Quirk & Son will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014, from 9 AM to 8 PM.
A Rosary will be prayed at 3 PM by Deacon Gary Gaudin with the Catholic Daughters. The funeral home will reopen at 8 AM Monday until the time of service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iota for Robert L. “Bobby” Frey, 81, who died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at 8:27 a.m. surrounded by his loving family.
Fr. Jude Thierry, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate for the services and Fr. Randy Moreau will concelebrate. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson, Crowley. Burial will be in Ashford Cemetery in Duralde.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil Klumpp Frey of Iota; two daughters, Angela F. Reed and her husband Phillip of Iota, Shelley Marie Frey of Iota; three sons, David R. Frey and his wife Peggy of Iota, Daniel E. Frey and his wife Alice of Iota, Kenneth P. Frey and his wife Richelle of Eunice; one sister, Catherine F. Fontenot of Jennings; two brothers, Sylvester Frey of Iota and Harold Frey of Hackberry; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lena Prather Frey; four sisters, Mania Marie Frey, Ceil Leger, Clara LeJeune and Amelia Bertrand; five brothers, Walter Frey, Jimmy Frey, Frank Frey, August Frey and Richard Frey.
Pallbearers will be David R. Frey, Daniel E. Frey, Kenneth P. Frey, Phillip J. Reed, David Curtis Frey and Michael J. Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Frey, Trenton Orcutt and Bryce Hancock.

Gladys V. Sonnier died on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice at the age of 85. A Celebration of Life was celebrated at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Interment followed in the St. Paul Cemetery with Deacon David Guillory officiating.
Survivors include her son, John David Cormier of Eunice; her daughter, Kathy A. Fontenot and husband, Ferrell of Baton Rouge; her daughter-in-law, Sue Phillips of Scott; two brothers, Roy Vidrine and wife, Margie of Lafayette and Rodney Vidrine of Opelousas; seven grandchildren, Christina Jumonville, Tiffany Amy, Amanda Cormier, Ferrell Glenn Fontenot, Jr, Camille Fontenot, Heidi Hopkins and Christian Fontenot and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, D.V. Paul Cormier and Joseph Sonnier; her parents, Jule and Mary Camilia Catoire Vidrine; three brothers, Olide, Goldbert and Curry Vidrine; two sisters, Linius and Euces Fontenot.

Liz Godeaux, 48, died on Friday, December 19, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Chataignier. Interment will follow in the Brown-Godeaux Cemetery in Chataignier with Father Michael Champagne and Father Darren Eldridge officiating.
She was a legal assistant for the Law Office of Alice Bower. She was the first young girl who made a Cursillo. She was the youngest of fourteen children.
Survivors include her husband, Lance Dato of Fort Worth, Texas; her mother, Rose Godeaux of Swords; two children, London and Logan Trundle; a granddaughter, Emmaleigh Trundle; four brothers, Edward Andrepont and Dewey Godeaux, both of Swords, Ray Allen Godeaux of Point Blue and Roland Godeaux of Lafayette; six sisters, Anna Darbonne of Carencro, Katherine Joubert of Baton Rouge, Katheline Fontenot and Diana Texada, both of Swords, Delores Briley of Grand Prairie and Stella Godeaux of Ragley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Antione Godeaux, Jr; three brothers, Ferrell, Terrell and Gilbert Godeaux; and her godmother, Gloria Andrepont.
Arrangements are by Ardoin's.

Virgie B. Richard died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at her home. She was 84. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Deacon David Guillory officiating
Survivors include her five sons, Floyd Menard and wife, Sherry, Ronald Menard, Harold Menard and wife, Belinda, Anthony Menard, and James Richard, all of Eunice; two daughters, Mona Chandler and husband, Sonnie of DeQuincy and Diana Matt and husband, Darrell of Eunice; two sisters, Betty Fontenot of Basile and Anna Lee Thibodeaux of Eunice; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Richard; parents, Elias and Mamie LaCombe Blanchard; son, Jean Richard; and brothers, Rodney and Leroy Blanchard.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, December 22nd from 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Tuesday, December 23rd from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6 Monday evening.

Mavis Dietz died on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Camelot Brookside Nursing Home in Jennings at the age of 70. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Iota Cemetery with Pastor David Greene officiating.
Survivors include three brothers, Marvin Dietz and wife, Lois of Eunice, Velton Dietz and wife, Gertie of Abbeville and Lee Dietz and wife, Brenda of Iota; two sisters, Doris Regan and husband, Donald of Egan and Evaline “Sister” Regan of Iota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mabel Miller Dietz; her brothers, Roland, Bruce, Freddie, Francis and Aubrey Dietz; and sisters, Ruth Richardson and Rita Connor.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Iota on Saturday, December 27th from 8:00 am until time of services.

Survivors include his wife, Roxy V. Peres of Eunice; two sons, Derrick Peres of Eunice and Dave Peres of Eunice; three brothers, Russell Savoy, Jr. of Eunice, Michael Savoy of Kaplan, and Rodney Bushnell of Eunice; three sisters, Sandra LeJeune of Eunice, Pauline Savoy of Eunice, and Marie Savoy of Lafayette; three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Peres and Marilyn Johnson Savoy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014, from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home.

Emily Pommier Duke

Emily Pommier Duke was born on December 8, 1921, in Mamou, LA, and died on Christmas Day, 2014 in Bogalusa at the home of her eldest son.
She was proud to have received her GED as an adult working mother who maintained a home which she help build at 920 North Fifth Street in the Duplechin Addition, being the third house to be added in 1954. She was a homemaker until she became office manager for Naquin Furniture Store and then later at a floor covering store. She was a daughter of Flores Pommier and Omerice Fontenot Pommier.
Survivors include two sons, Merlin Duke and his wife Eleanor Watson Duke of Bogalusa, LA. -- they have two sons, David Merlin Duke, who is an assistant district attorney and city prosecutor in Bogalusa and is Damon Watson Duke, who is a videographer for Charter Media and is married to Nikki Stewart Duke. She has only one great-grandchild, Finn Gabriel Duke, 2 years old who celebrated Christmas Eve by posing for photos on her lap. They live in Madisonville, LA.
Her youngest son, Clarence Nolan Duke, a meteorologist in Kansas City, MO, is married to homemaker Karyl Peterson Duke, and they are the parents of two children, Emily Lorraine Duke, a student at a Southern Baptist seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and one son, Andrew Jackson Duke, a recent high school graduate. She has one full surviving brother, Johnny Pommier (Betty) formerly of Mamou, now of Opelousas, and one surviving half-sister, Joyce Guillory Powell (Burton) of Eunice. She has two surviving step-sisters, Berna Guillory and Bernice Guillory McGee, both of Mamou.
Deceased siblings are Clement Pommier and Ruby Pommier Flores.
Deceased half-siblings are Burleigh Guillory, Yourick Guillory, Jr., Louis George Guillory, and Rodney Guillory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Shockley Duke from Newton County, Miss.i and her middle son, Charles Edward Duke, who was married to Barbara Ann Brown of Elton and the father of one daughter, Trischa Ann Duke, a college professor of English at the University of Chicago, and Brandon Charles Duke of the construction industry in Baton Rouge.
Her body will be at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice with the Rev. Tim Moffett, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducting services at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 29, 2014.
Visitation begins at 10 AM.

She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her four children, Troy Shane Broussard, Angie Murillo and husband, Kent Fontenot, Destiny Perez and husband, Mike and Ciara Dale Murillo all of Eunice; her five grandchildren, John, Cheyenne, Mitchell Shane, Hunter and Delsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oreus and Alta Fontenot Vidrine; and a son, Mitchell Bertrand.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Deanna Dupre

Deanna Mae Dupre died on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette. She was 75. A Mass will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, January 02, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Inurnment will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Father Sensat officiating.
She was a retired bookkeeper from the Bank of Commerce in Crowley as well as an active member of the Deaf Action Center in Lafayette.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Tanner and husband, Clint of Youngsville; a brother, Fred Dupre of Lafayette and a sister, Delores Rachal and husband, Wesley of Eunice and two granddaughters, Caroline and Kristen Tanner of Youngsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Celima Bertrand Dupre; four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Friday, January 2nd from 9:00 am until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 10:00 am.

Elias Darbonne, Jr. died in his home on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the age of 69. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery with Chaplain Jack Hall, Brother Gary Mitchell and Brother Orville Rogers officiating.
Early in his life he was a farmer, a truck driver for 23 years and for 18 years he had a lawn care service.
Survivors include his wife, Socorro Darbonne of Eunice; two children, Brian Darbonne and wife, Denise and Cathy Darbonne, all of Eunice; three step-children, Carmen Miller, Joseph and Elizabeth Carrier all of Eunice; two brothers, David Darbonne and wife, Brenda of Call, Texas and LeeRay Darbonne and wife, Christine of Lafayette; a half-brother, Emeze Darbonne and wife, Nelwyn of Eunice and three grandchildren, Brian Darbonne, II, Briley and Bryce Darbonne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Regina Veillon Darbonne.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 30th from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm and again on Wednesday, December 31st from 8:00 am until time of services.
