Monica Mary Deville, 86, died on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center. A mass of Christian burial will be held in her honor on Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie at 1:00 PM. Rite of committal will follow in the Addison Johnson Cemetery in Bayou Chicot with Fr. Richard Broussard as celebrant. Ardoin's is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her sons Lloyd Deville and wife Pam of Eunice, Robert Deville and wife Lisa of Moss Bluff, and John Deville and wife Deneen of Pine Prairie, her daughters Linda Deville Hebert of Bayou Chicot, Patricia Deville Crosby and husband David of Pine Prairie, and Karen Deville Brode of West Monroe, her brother John Christie of Surrey, England, and her sister Margeret Andrews of Billericay Essex, England; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Deville, her son David Deville, her daughter Theresa Deville, her twin sister Mary Beat, and her sister Jill Field.
Visitation will be at the funeral home until time of services Monday.

Harry Lee Fontenot died on January 3, 2014 at his home in Grand Ridge, Fla. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 7, 2013 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Iota. Burial will follow in the Sensat Cemetery in Egan with Reverend Juno Douglas officiating.
He was a native of Iota. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic on the pipeline for many years. He later worked for Wells Fargo as a security guard where he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Marie Fontenot of Grand Ridge; daughter, Cheryl Fontenot of Jennings, LA; two sons, Johnny Ray Fontenot and wife, Lucy, and Ryan Fontenot, all of Grand Ridge; brother, Larry James Fontenot of Iota; six grandchildren, Garrett LeJeune and wife, Kristen, Courtney LeJeune, Nick Cloud, Mikayla Fontenot, Bennett Fontenot, and Mitchel Fontenot; and one great-granddaughter, Reagan Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Cecelia Fontenot; and his oldest son, Bennett Fontenot.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Iota on Monday, January 6th from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, January 7th from 8:00 am until time of services.

ULM professor emeritus
MONROE – Services for ULM professor of biology emeritus Dr. Beryl Franklin will be Feb. 8. He died Dec. 24 at age 90.
He was a veteran of World War II’s Battle of the Bulge and held two Purple Hearts. He taught at the university for 28 years and was at The Ohio State University prior to that. For many years he was chairman of the board of The Wolcott Foundation.
Survivors include his wife Nancy.

Secretary to governors
BATON ROUGE – Services for former secretary to several governors Doris Davenport will be Tuesday. She died Jan. 4 at age 98.
She was secretary to U.S. Sen. Russell Long and served as legal secretary to Governors Earl K. Long, Robert F. Kennon, Jimmie H. Davis, John J. McKeithen and Edwin W. Edwards.
Survivors include a son and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Bank VP
DENHAM SPRINGS – Services for retired banker Dolores Williams will be Friday. She died Jan. 6 at age 77.
She was in banking for almost 30 years, retiring as a Premier Bank vice president.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter.

Hospital CEO
RACELAND – Services for hospital CEO and oil field industry executive Milton Bourgeois, Jr. will be Saturday. He died Dec. 26 at age 67.
He had been CEO of Ochsner St. Anne since 1988 and was immediate past chairman of the Louisiana Hospital Association Board of Trustees. He was formerly an officer in a multi-state engineering company and was co-owner and general partner of two oilfield service companies.
Survivors include his wife Roberta and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Falgout.

Coach, principal
BERWICK – Services for coach and principal Thomas D. Bourgeous, Sr. will be Thursday. He died Jan. 6 at age 55.
His Berwick High basketball and football teams were runners-up in 1994 and 1996 state championships. He had been a teacher, coach and principal for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife Martha, a son and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Twin City.

Night club owner
PRAIRIEVILLE – Services for home building and night club owner Frank Cappo will be Thursday. He died Jan. 5 at age 68.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a residential home builder. He opened the first upscale nightclub in the Baton Rouge area -- Split Decision.
Survivors include his wife Charlene and a son.

Jackie Harold Lewis died on Monday January 6, 2014 at the age of 76.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Pastor Billy Truman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Amy F. Lewis of Eunice; two daughters, Kathy Jane Davis of Delta and Pamela Ann Lewis of Eunice; two step-daughters, Amber N. Young of Mansfield, OH and Rosa Lynn Thibodeaux of Port Barre; two sons, Shad Lee Lewis of Eunice and Jackie H. Lewis, Jr. of Burleson, Texas; two step-sons, Jimmy J. Thibodeaux, Jr. and Matthew J. Thibodeaux, both of Ohio; one sister, Sue L. Carins of Baton Rouge; one brother, Bobby Lewis of Franklin, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradford and Corrine Hogan Lewis; two daughters, Pamela Ruth Lewis and Penny Sue Lewis; three sisters, Helen Lewis, Ruth Durio, and Janie Courville; and four brothers, Jimmy Lewis, Glen Lewis, Billy Larry Lewis, and Charles Edward Lewis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 9, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. to time of service. Quirk & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roderick “Chicken” Jenkins died on Sunday, January 05, 2014 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge at the age of 74. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 08, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Eunice with Pastor Tim Moffett officiating.
“Chicken” was a welder and mechanic.
Survivors include his brother, Raleigh “Sego” Jenkins of Baton Rouge; his sister, Oneita J. Kratzer of Eunice; niece, Jessica K. Doyle of Ville Platte; nephews, Billy and Jason A. Jenkins both of Spring, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hazel Brown Jenkins; niece, Nancy E. Kratzer and a brother-in-law, Eddie P. Kratzer.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Eunice on Wednesday, January 8th from 9:00 am until time of services.

Shannon Yvette Landreneau Chapman, 43, died on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 5 a.m. at her residence in Reddell. Rite of Committal will follow in New St. Ann’s Cemetery in Mamou with Father Jason Vidrine Celebrant.
Survivors include her mother, Delores “ Dee “ Lejeune and husband Alton “Doc” of Eunice; two daughters, Jenna Lee Chapman of Eunice and Joni Beth Chapman of Ville Platte; one brother, Michael Scott Landreneau and wife, Kim of Vidrine; one sister Caraline Campbell and husband, Terry of Pine Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her son, Iram Jade Fuselier; her father, Jimmy Jude Landreneau; and one nephew, Gareth Brock Landreneau.

Survivors include her husband, David Boone, Sr. of Eunice; five daughters, Brenda Young and her husband Gregory of Chataignier, Kayler Boone, Bridgette Roy and her husband Chuck, Jolene Boone, and Samantha Boone, all of Eunice; four sons, David Boone, Jr. and his wife Clarice of Chataignier, Jody Boone, Madison Boone, and Nicklaus Boone, all of Eunice; seven sisters, Jerry Johnson of DeQuincy, Betty Veillon of Gonzales, Joann LeJeune of Tennessee, Louanna Johnson of Eunice, Hazel Johnson of Jasper, Texas, Judy Manuel of Sulphur, and Patricia Luquette of Eunice; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Effie Bird Johnson; and one brother, JL Johnson.
Vsitation will be held on Thursday January 9, 2014 at 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral Home. The funeral home will reopen on Friday at 8 a.m. for visitation until time of service.

Dermatologist
LAFAYETTE – Services for long-time dermatologist Dr. James Odom will be Saturday. He died Jan. 8 at age 81.
He was with what is now Hamilton Medical Group before opening his own practice. Over his 44-year career he was also a clinical instructor at University Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife Martha and four children.

Pharmacist
ALEXANDRIA – Services for long-time pharmacist Aldred “Buddy Coco, Jr. will be Friday. He died Jan. 8 at age 78.
He was a member of the first graduating class of NLU (now ULM) School of Pharmacy, a class of 13 students. He was a retail pharmacist for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Barbara and two sons.
Arrangements are by Kramer.

Honored businesswoman
LAFAYETTE – Services for businesswoman Ernestine George will be Friday. She died Jan. 7 at age 85.
She operated a business administering personality profile testing to job applicants. She was a former member of the State Commerce and Industry Board and delegate to a White House Conference on Small Business. She was named state Small Business Advocate of the Year.
Survivors include five children.
Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.

Attorney
BATON ROUGE – Services for attorney Mary Broussard will be Friday. She died Jan. 8 at age 52.
A former physics teacher at New Iberia High, she later earned a law degree and was assistant general counsel of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.
Survivors include her husband Deacon Patrick Broussard, her mother, and two children.
Arrangements are by Wilbert.

Former mayor
BALL – Services for former mayor Lawrence Mahoney will he Friday. He died Jan. 6 at age 77.
He was one of 10 original incorporators of Ball, a Rapides Parish town north of Pineville, and was its first mayor, elected to two consecutive terms. He was retired field superintendent for the Rapides Parish Sales Tax Department.
Survivors include his wife Florence, a daughter and a step-son.

Patti Reed

Services for Patti Lynn Reed, resident of Baton Rouge and formerly of Eunice, will be Saturday.
She died on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the age of 57. She had a history of heart problems.
She was a graduate of Eunice High School in 1974.
Survivors include her husband, James Kurt Reed; sons, Christopher Reed and wife Megan, Doug Reed and Bryan Reed; mother, Edna Murray Prince; step-father, James Prince; brother, Mark Fisher; nieces, Brenna Fisher, and Lauren Fontenot and husband Drew and their sons, Weller and Andrew; nephew, Jacob Langley and wife Caroline Langley and their daughter, Lorelie; sister-in-law, Beth Langley and husband Jerome Langley; and mother and father-in-law, Della and Lester Reed.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bobbie Murray and step-father, Melvin Fisher.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the funeral home at 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Fontenot; his parents, Kenneth and Debbie Fontenot; his brother, Kory Fontenot and wife, Misty; his sister, Katy Fontenot and her son, Payton Fontenot, all of Eunice; his paternal grandmother, Vernice Babineaux; maternal grandparents, Eldridge and Ethel LeJeune, all of Eunice; his in-laws, Joe and Janette Fontenot and their children, Brittany Fontenot and her son, Owen Thibodeaux, Sarah and Dylan Fontenot, all of Eunice.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, C.J. Babineaux.

Former sheriff, U.S. Marshal
HOMER – Services for former sheriff and U.S. Marshal J.R. Oakes will be Saturday. He died Jan. 9 at age 84.
He was Claiborne Parish sheriff for 25 years before being appointed a U.S. Marshal for Louisiana’s Western District.
Survivors include his wife Juanita, a son and a daughter.

Pioneer educator
ABBEVILLE – Services for pioneer educator Charles Jones, Sr. will be Saturday. He died Jan. 9 at age 99.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former Vermilion Parish school principal. He was the first African American supervisor for the parish school board, supervising testing and evaluation of the Title I program.
Survivors include a son.

Geologist, former LSU prof
BATON ROUGE – Services for geologist and former LSU professor Oscar Huh, Jr. will be Feb. 15. He died Dec. 31 at age 78.
He was on the faculty of the LSU Coastal Studies Institute and was founder and director of the Earth Scan Laboratory, the first satellite receiving station of its kind in the Gulf Coast region.
Survivors include his wife Wanda.

First La. Tech male nurse grad
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired R.N. Jackie Daniel, the first male to receive a nursing degree from Louisiana Tech, will be Saturday. He died Jan. 8 at age 66.
He received his degree from Tech in 1975.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn and two step-sons.

John Fontenot died on Thursday, January 09, 2014 at Eunice Manor at the age of 88. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 12 noon on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Interment will follow in the Ashford Cemetery with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and owner/operator of Fontenot Auto Repair.
Survivors include his significant other, Betty Andrus of Eunice, nephews and nieces Joseph L. Fontenot of Clayton, GA, Cornelia Fontenot of Ville Platte, Joseph Granger, Wayne Vidrine, Bonnie Taylor, Floyd Vidrine, Valley Vidrine, Jr., Willie Vidrine, Sandy Fuselier and Ellen Medlin, all of Eunice; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Bazinet, also of Eunice.
He was preceeded in death byhis wife, Annie Lee V. Fontenot; parents, Armand and Edna Vidrine Fontenot; and a brother, Eraste Fontenot.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, January 13th from 10:00 am until 12 noon with a Rosary being recited at 11:00 am by Deacon Gary Gaudin.

Former mayor
BOSSIER CITY – Arrangements are pending for former mayor and restaurateur George Dement. He died Jan. 13 at age 91.
He was a U.S. Navy submariner during World War II. He was elected mayor four times and was long-time operator of Holiday Inn.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Rose-Neath.

Former hospital CEO
PINEVILLE – Services were Sunday for retired hospital CEO Julius R. McLaurin. He died Jan. 10 at age 90.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was president and CEO of Rapides Regional Medical Center for 18 years, guiding its transition from Baptist Hospital run by the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He was a former president of the Louisiana Hospital Association.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter.

Ear surgeon
NEW ORLEANS – Private services will be held for pioneer ear surgeon Dr. Frank Normann, Jr.. He died Jan. 5.
During the Korean War, he was a surgeon in the first M.A.S.H. organized by the U.S. Army. He conducted the first middle ear surgery for restoration of hearing in this area.
Survivors include his wife Lucy and three children.

Secretary to LBC secretaries
ALEXANDRIA – Services for retired Louisiana Baptist Convention executive secretary administrative assistant Melba Voda are Monday. She died Jan. 9 at age 89.
She was secretary to four LBC Executive Secretaries -- Drs. W.H. Knight, Floyd Chaffin, Robert L. Lee and Mark Short.
Survivors include a son, Carl.

Former legislator, publisher
OAKDALE – Services for former newspaper publisher and legislator E. Holman Jones will be Wednesday. He died Jan. 12 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He and the late Harold Hudgins began the Oakdale Beacon in 1960 as a free circulation paper. He was owner of Magnolia Printing for more than 50 years and co-owner of the Oakdale Journal. He served one term in the Louisiana House and was president of the Oakdale Recreation District board for almost 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Patricia and five children.

Retired banker
NEW IBERIA – Services for retired banker Jack O. Broussard will be Tuesday. He died Jan. 11 at age 91.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired CEO of New Iberia National Bank.
Survivors include three children.

SLU Professor Emeritus
HAMMOND – Services for SLU Professor Emeritus Dr. Thomas Tedder, Jr. will be Thursday. He died Jan. 11 at age 85.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. HE was founder of the La. Council of Professors of Educational Administration.
Survivors include a daughter.

Furniture company owner
ALEXANDRIA – Services for former medical records administrator and furniture company owner Fay Downs Ellerbe will be Thursday. She died Jan. 12 at age 87.
Her family owned Downs Furniture for many years.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter.

Former Grambling councilman, pastor
JONESBORO -- Services for former Grambling, La. city councilman and educator/pastor the Rev. Roosevelt Bryant, Jr. will be Thursday.
He was a former teacher-administrator in Ouachita, Jackson and Bienville Parishes schools and director of Project Upward Bound at Grambling State. He had pastored a number of Baptist churches in Louisiana and serviced on the Grambling City Council.
Survivors include his wife Emma Jean and two children.

Rodney Joseph Sittig, Sr. died on Sunday January 12, 2014 at the age of 73.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday January 15, 2014. Father Clinton Sensat will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Thomas More Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene G. Sittig of Eunice; one son, Rodney Sittig, Jr. of Lafayette; one step-son, Joey Dies of Eunice; one sister, Darlene Dean of Georgia; four brothers, Lammy Sittig, George Sittig, both of Chester, Texas, Wayne Sittig of MA, and Dolan Sittig of Las Vegas, N.V.; one grandchild, Hannah Dies; and two great -randchildren, Chance and Brooklyn Ortego.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ubel CJ Sittig and Rose Fontenot Barnes; and one sister, Kathleen Sittig.
Vsitation will be held on Tuesday January 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed by Deacon David Guillory at 7 that evening. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday until time of service.

Renston Joseph Deshotel, Jr., 47, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at his Mamou home.. A Funeral of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel of Mamou; burial will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery in Mamou with Deacon Gary Gaudin as Celebrant.
He was Evangeline Parish Ward 3 constable, a part-time sheriff's deputy and warrant officer and inmate supervisor for the Town of Mamou. He was past fireman of the year and two-time policeman of the year.
Survivors include his wife Vanessa Perron Deshotel of Mamou; two daughters: Krystal Paige Deshotel and Mollie Beth Deshotel, also of Mamou; his parents, Renston J. Deshotel, Sr. and Jenny Deshotel of Mamou; two sisters, Leisa Deshotel and her husband, Johhny of Mamou and Tiffany Deshotel and her companion, Rusty LaFleur of Reddell; nieces and nephews: Brandon, Andrew, Meghan, Chelsi and Macy and his great-nieces and nephews: Landry, Chesley, Emma, Sophia, Kynleigh and Ashton. He was a godfather to Ferryl Deshotel, II, Chelsi Gautreaux and Meghan Fusilier.

Wildlife artist
MOSS BLUFF – Services for artist Elton Louviere are pending. He died Jan. 13 at age 83.
He was a commercial artist who owned an outdoor advertising company before becoming a full-time wildlife and rural Louisiana scenes painter. His waterfowl paintings won a number of awards and his work as published in three separate volumes.
Survivors include his wife Pat.

City Planner
NEW ORLEANS – Arrangements are pending for former city planner John Scales, who died Dec. 31 in Palm Springs, Calif.
While New Orleans city planner, he designed the inner-city bike path. He subsequently worked for the Department of the Navy and the City of San Francisco.

She died died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, January 09, 2014 at home due to cancer. She was 52.
Survivors include her husband: Patrick Todor; her parents: Linus & Gerrie Cormier; her daughters: Casey, Kylie and Kristin; two sisters: Kim and Missy; a brother: Kevin; mother-in-law: Wanda Lee Todor; 6 grandchildren and one on the way.
Carla was preceded in death by her grandparents: Leonard & Bea LeJeune, and Lester & Anniebelle Cormier; father-in-law: John Todor.
